I have a 14 page story in this anthology and we’re pushing for some funding! It’d mean the world to us if you could throw a few bucks our way! Maurice Vellekoop is in it! Michael Deforge! Emily Carroll! Tim Sievert! Prizes include (amongst other things) a set of prints (one is a drawing of mine) AND A DATE WITH AN ARTIST!
All I’m saying is that I’m one of the artists.

The image above is a little tease from one of the rewards, a print set from four of the artists.

Jeremy Sorese is like one of my favorite artists and just an all-around cool person and this anthology is going to be SWEET. I really want to see this get funded! You like marriage equality, don’t you?

While great, it’s about 15 years too late. The internet is killing papers, and webcomics have been around for that entire time. It’s really easy to get your stuff seen today.

Dude, negative much? If anything, the huge sea of artists that is the internet makes it more difficult to get your stuff seen these days. Getting your stuff hand-delivered to important people in the publishing business is a great opportunity. Additionally, Millennial Youth is building an online presence with webcomics being a big part of that.
Regardless, having a webcomic doesn’t magically make you famous and get your work seen (I would know) It takes a lot of cross-publishing, online and in print, to build a presence as an artist.
If you don’t want to participate, cool, but why make it seem like we’re ignorant? The face of print publishing is different, but it’s definitely not dead.

As most of you know I was hired as Millennial Youth’s comic editor for their comics section Sequence! While there will be a couple regular contributors the rest is completely open to the public. For our upcoming issue we’re calling for comic submissions—the strips can be about anything (even using your pre-existing characters) as long as they’re understandable to first-time readers.
Please keep in mind the magazine’s audience age range is from young to old so keep it family friendly!
If you can spread this around please PLEASE do! Unfortunately we don’t have much time but we need as many as we can get!
Anyone who’s interested or has any questions shoot me an e-mail at nmannino@millennialyouth.com. For more info check out the MY comic submission guidelines. Thanks guys!

ok so I’ve been sitting across from Nik while she’s been working on this whole thing
it is RIDICULOUS how few people have put in to be PUBLISHED - do people not want to get published? You just want to be unknown forever!? Send comics in, you guys! Everyone working on the magazine is super super nice.

At long last it’s here! I know it’s a little spendy but just remember you’re supporting the arts! I’ll also be selling two other versions fairly shortly. A black and white digest size version and a SUPER DELUXE HERO version which will be signed and doodled in and come with a special mini-comic! I’ll post the link to the little b&w one later but if you wanna be a SUPER DELUXE HERO message me here and I’ll get to sending you one ASAP.

Thanks!!!

For the second year in a row, I had the honour of creating the poster for the Jay Kennedy Memorial Scholarship.
Awarded by the National Cartoonists Society Foundation, the scholarship gives $5000 to a promising student cartoonist every year. The scholarship is open to any student in the US, Canada and Mexico, and you do not need to be an art student.
More information is available at the NCSF website, and I encourage all students with cartooning in their blood to apply.
You can see the poster I did for last year’s scholarship.
EDIT: Here’s a high-res printable PDF of this year’s poster if you want to print it out for your school or comic shop.

As the winner of last year’s scholarship, I encourage all aspiring college cartoonists to apply for this amazing opportunity. As a winner, you get to attend the National Cartoonist Society’s Reuben Awards weekend, and it is fabulous, amazing, stupendulous; there are just not enough adjectives to describe it!
When I went to this year’s awards show, it was one of the magical weekends of my life. I met some of my greatest cartooning heroes there, and made an entirely new cartooning family. If not for the money, apply for a chance to attend a society of like-minded, encouraging, inspiring, and creative individuals.
You don’t have to be an art major or be in art school to apply; as long as you have the passion to do cartoons, you’re eligible!
Please spread the word! And apply as soon as you can!

I bet you all saw this already, but I think it’s pretty cool! I’m totally gonna apply once I make it to Junior year (not that I’d have a chance but a girl can dream, can’t she!?) Also, the attached words from last year’s winner are really cool/encouraging. Check this stuff out, guys!
